Last summer my family and I spent a week in Ellsworth at our timeshare, paying frequent visits to MDI. One day we found ourselves in Bar Harbor around lunch time and very hungry. We were looking for some place reasonably priced to eat and found Gram's. The prices were very reasonable and the selections were incredible, so we thought we would give it a try. To our delight, this was some of the best pizza we have ever tasted. The service was fast and friendly as well. We liked it so much we went back a few days later, and Jason, one of the owners (really nice guy) remembered us from our previous visit. Sure it was just a few days, but when you think of all the people that come through Bar Harbor on any given summer day, that is pretty remarkable to me.

The thing that impressed me the most aside from the quality and flavor of their pizza, was the selection. First, you can have your pizza on white or whole wheat crust (we like the wheat). In addition to traditional red sauce, you can also have white pizza (just an olive oil rub on the crust), Béarnaise sauce, Alfredo sauce or pesto. There were also half a dozen or so cheeses to choose from and myriad toppings, from the traditional to the unusual. The possibilities are endless (or, as they say, "The pie's the limit").

We ordered 2 large pizzas - one traditional with red sauce and mozzarella cheese (can't remember what toppings but probably bacon, pepperoni or mushroom), the other with pesto, mozzarella and feta cheeses, and black olives, chicken and fresh tomato toppings. Both were superb.

Gram’s also offers a host of fresh, homemade pies and other desserts that look perfectly scrumptious – but we were all to full from our pizzas to give them a try.

I have eaten at most of the pizza places in Bar Harbor, and this is by far the best pizza there, possibly the best I have ever eaten anywhere. If you are in Bar Harbor and love pizza, you owe it to yourself to give them a try.
