MOUNT DESERT — Each winter, John Williams boatyard in Hall Quarry is reunited with several of its famed Stanley lobster yachts. This year, Gambol, a Stanley 36 from Northeast Harbor (built in 1980 by John Williams) has returned to the yard for a major refit; new cockpit deck, and a complete varnish and strip job.

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School swim team sped past Presque Isle on Friday in a dual meet. The MDI girls allowed Presque Isle only one first-place finish (in the 50-yard freestyle) out of 12 events. And the MDI boys gave up first-place finishes in only two events (the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 200-yard freestyle).

BAR HARBOR — Mount Desert Island High School swimmers out swam Hampden Academy in the Trojan’s first regular season dual swim meet of the year on Friday at the Lenny DeMuro pool.

BAR HARBOR — Two lobstermen followed an international team of scientists into right whale territory last week as part of a survey conducted by the New England Aquarium’s Right Whale Research Project.

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Mount Desert Island Trojans improved to 2-0 with a lopsided 63-29 win over the Foxcroft Academy Ponies.

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School girls’ basketball team will host the team’s season-opening home game on Saturday at 7 p.m.

BAR HARBOR — Area basketball diehards are rejoicing this week over the end of the National Basketball Association lockout and the beginning of the Mount Desert Island High School basketball season. The Trojans are revving up. The players have been chosen and the schedule is set. The MDI boys will play their first regular-season game against Washington Academy in East Machias on Friday at 7 p.m.

BUCKSPORT — The Mount Desert Island High School wrestling team had its first scrimmage against Bucksport High School on Saturday. According to head coach Chip Dugans, the Trojans used the opportunity to scrape away some off season rust.

BAR HARBOR — The Frenchman Bay Partners (formerly known as the Frenchman Bay Stakeholders) is a communitywide collective of area conservationists, commercial fishermen, scientists and business owners invested in the health and viability of Frenchman Bay.

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Southwest Harbor photographer Michael E. Rindler finds beauty in working vessels – handsome boats and antique motorcars. His photography, which features the fishing boats of Mount Desert Island and the Cranberry Isles, will be exhibited at the Harbor House Community Service Center in Southwest Harbor throughout the month of December, opening Monday, Dec. 5th.
