Millinocket) 14 points, built on a foundation of four three pointers, led Maine-Presque Isle to a 45-32 win over Maine Maritime Academy in the season opener for both squads. ELLSWORTH — The Hancock County Teachers Association is offering a $500 book award to a college student from Hancock County enrolled in the field of education. This award is available to a college student who is entering the senior year in the fall of 2012. The deadline for receiving applications is March 1.

ELLSWORTH — Gloria Anastasia Dwinal, 87, passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospital, Bangor, from complications of acute leukemia. She was born June 10, 1924, in Brewer, the daughter of Donald C. Dwinal and Genevieve A. Cullinan Dwinal.

TRENTON — Barbara M. Blaschinski, 83, beloved mother and friend, died Nov. 15, 2011, at her residence surrounded by people she loved. She was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Hartford, Conn., the daughter of James J. and Mildred (DeMonte) Cassell.
