For many of us, the best part of Thanksgiving is the leftovers, or encores…foods so delicious you want to bring them back for another show.

Scores of area groups, businesses and institutions participated in the annual Bar Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce Bed Races in Bar Harbor on Saturday.

Sometimes everything comes together in the right place and the right time. The stars and planets line up, the earth is tilted just so. The muses, pleased with all this harmonic convergence, smile down from above, nod to each other and say, “it’s time, sisters.”

BLUE HILL — Oh lucky Hancock County theater lovers! After a contentious election season, local schools and theaters are offering the public numerous opportunities to escape into music, dance, fantasy and theatrical, rather than political, drama.

COLUMBIA FALLS — For many people, the mention of cranberries may conjure up images of Ocean Spray commercials: two men with a dry sense of humor standing knee-deep in a bog full of floating berries.

DEER ISLE — The old adage that you get what you pay for doesn’t hold water when you look at mosaic artist Anette Jaquette’s newly built studio here.

BUCKSPORT — A dry eye was not to be found at the book signing and reading of Jennifer Skiff’s new book “The Divinity of Dogs” at BookStacks on Nov. 8.

The corn stalks are pale brown and tattered, with the black shapes of crows flapping among them, making a racket. They’re after the last of the field corn we grew as winter food for the chickens. Clearly, there are some ears we missed.

We are fortunate to celebrate Thanksgiving more than once each year with assorted gatherings of the clan. My Aunt Faith, the ultimate planner, hosts a multitude of Craig and Wixson descendants at her snug 1960s ranch in Falmouth. Weeks before, the menu LIST is circulated via e-mail, with each of us signing up to bring a dish.
