BLUE HILL — Finding a parking space may prove to be more of a challenge than finding your favorite type of music at the Last Night! 2009 New Year’s Eve celebration in Blue Hill.

It’s an irony, a small one, possibly not even a true one. But here it is, just in time for New Year’s Eve: Much as a nice tux can cost less than a nice suit, a decent champagne can cost less than a decent wine.

MOUNT DESERT — The First Friday in January happens to fall on New Year’s Day this year, so the Northeast Harbor Library’s First Friday Coffeehouse for January is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 2.

ELLSWORTH — Maine comedian Bob Marley is offering four shows at The Grand Auditorium in Ellsworth on Friday, Jan. 8 and Saturday, Jan. 9.

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The Dog Mountain Boys make their Sips debut on Wednesday, Dec. 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. They close out another calendar year of live music at Sips in Southwest Harbor.

BLUE HILL — Noel Paul Stookey, best known for his work with the folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, will open the festivities for Last Night! 2009, Blue Hill’s New Year’s Eve celebration, with a performance at the Congregational Church at 6 p.m.

BLUE HILL — The tradition started long before superhighways and planes whisked people from their home towns to spend the Christmas holiday with loved ones who had wound up in other regions of the country, but the holiday season remains a community affair in East Blue Hill.

It’s here! If you’re not done now with your shopping, or with putting together whatever tradition you and family or friends like to do for the holidays, time is up.

One of the traits that sets an artist apart is his or her ability to find something extraordinary in the ordinary and communicate it to others.
