SOUTH GOULDSBORO — Rena D. Daley, 89, died April 21, 2014, at an Ellsworth health care facility. She was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Gouldsboro, daughter of John and Myra (Rice) Duane.

ELLSWORTH — Glenn Carter, 52, of Ellsworth passed away at his father’s residence Sunday, April 20, 2014. He was born June 23, 1961 in Boston, Mass., a son of Arthur and Margaret (Bailey) Carter.

FAIRFAX, VA. Hugh Dwelley, 82, died April 10, 2014, at Fairfax Hospital of a heart attack. He graduated from Kents Hill School, Readfield in 1950 and went on to Boston University. He was a retired Foreign Service Officer whose career included tours in Turkey, India Sri Lanka and Italy. Upon retirement, he received USAID’s Outstanding Career Achievement Award.

ELLSWORTH — Susan L. (Burns) Robertson passed away peacefully April 15, 2014, at her home following a long battle with cancer. She was born July 11, 1956, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Patricia and Richard Burns of Town Hill.

altSTEUBEN — Thurston E. Pinkham, 82, went home to be with the Lord on April 18, 2014, at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Thurston was born July 13, 1931, in Steuben, to Floyd and Ella (Strout) Pinkham and attended school in Steuben.

ATHENS, TENN. And BAR HARBOR — Larry L. Sargent, 72, of Athens, Tenn., and Bar Harbor passed away April 20, 2014, at home surrounded by his family. He was born June 14, 1941, to Norman and Florence (Drew) Sargent of Eddington.

altHANCOCK — Richard Clarke Johnston, 88, died at his home April 20, 2014, after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 21, 1925, to Paul and Phoebe (Clarke) Johnston in Bar Harbor. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army Air Forces, where he met his devoted wife, Stella Brooks Johnston. They were married for nearly 68 years.

altTRENTON — Leo Mathew “George” Gascon, 91, died peacefully Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014, with his family by his side He was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Lisbon Falls, N.Y., the son of the late Edgar and Eleanor (Leflar) Gascon.

HALL QUARRY, MOUNT DESERT — Harry E. Brawley Jr., 79, died at home April 5, 2014, after a two-year battle with cancer. He was born April 22, 1934, in Hagerstown, Md., the son of Harry E. Brawley Sr. and Mary Paige (Plumley) Brawley.
