BAR HARBOR — High school students not playing on the Mount Desert Island High School basketball teams are encouraged to join a new basketball league hosted by the Mount Desert Island YMCA.

BAR HARBOR — Wrestlers at the Mount Desert Island High School are grappling with an annual paradox.

CASTINE — The Maine Maritime Academy men and women both came up short in basketball outings last week.

CAMDEN — The Dolphins of the James Russell Wiggins Down East Family YMCA battled the Penobscot Bay YMCA Sailfish from start to finish before coming up short by just 10 points, 532-522, in a dual meet on Saturday.

BAR HARBOR — With sports back in play at the Mount Desert Island High School, the YMCA is awash with young swimmers.

BAR HARBOR —The Mount Desert Island High School girls’ varsity basketball team solidified its preseason roster for its first two scrimmages.

BAR HARBOR — The boys’ varsity basketball team at Mount Desert Island High School began the preseason with a composed 75-59 win over Fryeburg Academy on Nov. 24.

BAR HARBOR — The boys’ junior varsity soccer team at Mount Desert Island High School finished the fall season with a record of 3-3-7. That did not earn the team any trophies, but those struggles are part of the young Trojans’ ascension to varsity ranks, their coach said.

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School athletics department has one more loss to announce from the 2012 fall season. Longtime head coach of the volleyball team, Todd Brophy, is stepping down from his position of nearly 10 years.
