The Mount Desert Island YMCA Badminton Open is set for Oct. 1-12. Scheduled events are Men’s and Women’s Singles; and Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles. The event features round robin preliminaries followed by a double elimination tournament. Participants are guaranteed a 3-game minimum. Game shuttles will be Yonex Mavis 350 (yellow) medium speed.

MILBRIDGE — The Elaine Hill Memorial 5K Run/Walk, now in its sixth year, will be held Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Women's Health Resource Library next to the Milbridge Medical Center.

altELLSWORTH — The George Stevens Academy Eagles became the first Hancock County girls’ team to record a fourth soccer win with a 4-1 victory over the Sumner Tigers on Friday in Blue Hill.

BLUE HILL — Mark Hurvitt of Blue Hill and Colleen Maynard of Southwest Harbor took top honors in the first At Home Downeast Tennis Round Robin held Saturday at the Blue Hill Country Club.

A field of 88 golfers turned out for the recent 17th annual Schoodic Scramble golf tournament, sponsored by Edith Dixon and Alan Goldstein and played at the Grindstone Neck Golf Course in Winter Harbor.

ELLSWORTH — The Bucksport Golden Bucks moved into second place in the state Class B volleyball standings on Tuesday with a close 3-2 win over the Class A Ellsworth Eagles.

BLUE HILL — Perfect scores don’t often come along in high school cross-country, but the George Stevens Academy Eagle boys recorded one in last week’s meet the featured most of Hancock County’s teams.

ELLSWORTH — Hancock County Habitat for Humanity’s 13th annual Swing for Habitat golf fundraiser has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4, (rain date will be Sunday, Oct. 5) at the historic Northeast Harbor Golf Club on Mount Desert Island.
