The Down East Family YMCA will hold Amateur Softball of America (ASA) tryouts for youngsters ages 14 and under on Sunday, May 4, at Ellsworth’s Demeyer Field 1.

CASTINE — When Deidra Davis arrived at Maine Maritime Academy in 1995, there were 29 female students and no women’s sports.

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School Trojans hosted the team from Stearns in Millinocket Saturday afternoon and won handily by a score of 9-2. Junior starting pitcher Tom Paola allowed only two runs on five hits in his six innings. He struck out six batters.

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School varsity softball team split a double header against Dirigo High School of Dixfield on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Trojans won the first game 12-4, and Dirigo came back to win the second game 12-7.

altBLUE HILL — The George Stevens Academy Eagles won their first softball game of the season 11-6 over the Sumner Tigers on Tuesday evening.

CASTINE — Three members of Maine Maritime Academy’s Athletics Department received the three highest awards at the Student Life Banquet held on April 7.

altBLUE HILL — Righthander Kelsey Allen allowed just three hits, striking out five batters and walking one as he pitched the George Stevens Academy Eagles to a season-opening 5-0 shutout over the Sumner Tigers on Tuesday.
