ELLSWORTH — The George Stevens Academy Eagle boys and girls both finished atop the Eastern Maine Class C tennis standings, thus earning first-round byes in the post-season playoffs.

The 11-1 GSA boys will face number nine Van Buren (5-4) in quarterfinal action Thursday at Blue Hill.

On Tuesday at Sorrento, Van Buren downed the eighth-ranked Sumner Tigers 4-1 in preliminary playoff action.

Jorge Fabara had the lone win for the 6-7 Tigers, downing Matt Vick 6-0, 6-2 at second singles.

Also in boys’ Class C, the 3-9 Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners, ranked number 11, were slated to play the 6-6 Orono Red Riots, ranked sixth, Wednesday at Orono for the right to face third-ranked Madawaska (10-2) in quarterfinal action.

On the girls’ side, 9-3 GSA was slated to face the number eight Orono Red Riots (9-4) in quarterfinal action Wednesday at Blue Hill.
