MDI Dismantles GSA

Written by  Hugh Bowden Wednesday, June 03, 2009 at 7:30 pm

BAR HARBOR — The Eagles saw their win streak snapped at 10 games on Monday as the Trojans ripped three GSA pitchers for 10 hits and took advantage of five errors in a 19-8 win.

The Eagles, who had just three hits, got all eight of their runs in the top of the first inning.

The Trojans started veteran pitcher Sammy Stewart on the mound. Whether it was the stars out of alignment or the preponderance of blackflies, with two outs under his belt, Stewart uncharacteristically walked six batters and sent another to first with a pitch right between the shoulder blades.

A timely triple by GSA’s Cameron Lawson drove three runs across the plate and an RBI double soon thereafter by Jesse Dow topped off the scoring.

The Eagles had some trouble of their own in the first inning as pitcher Nick Saunders gave up four walks and singles to Nolan Hall and Willy Clark.

That let the Trojans back into the game as they trailed just 8-6 at the end of the inning.

Hall, who came on in relief of Stewart, blanked the Eagles for the rest of the game.

The Trojans took the lead for good in the second inning.

Peter Logue and Gordon Falt drove in two runs with sacrifice flies and Hall followed moments later with a three-run homer to put MDI on top 11-8.

In the fourth inning, a two-run single by Clark and RBI singles by Jasper Cousins and Devon Young accounted for four runs.

O’Neil added to the total when he crushed the ball deep over the left centerfield fence for a three-run homer.

There was no coming back for the Eagles in the fifth as Hall walked the first GSA batter but retired the next three to get the save.
