
ELLSWORTH — The Mount Desert Island Trojans boys and girls piled up win after win on Friday, claiming dual Hancock County outdoor track championships at Del Luce Stadium.
The Trojan girls got a four-win performance from senior Danielle Hutchins, who provided 40 of MDI’s 248 points.
The Ellsworth Eagles placed second with 127, followed by Bucksport 96, George Stevens Academy 52, Searsport 19 and Sumner 6 in the girls’ competition.
On the boys’ side, Ben Cummings had three wins for the Trojans, who finished with 236 team points.
Bucksport was second with 128, just eight points in front of Ellsworth. Following were Sumner 36, GSA 33 and Searsport 6.
In the girls’ meet, MDI’s Hutchins turned on the speed to win the 100-meter dash in 12.80 seconds, the 200-meter dash in 26.50 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 1:01.
She capped her standout performance with a distance of 15 feet, 4.5 inches in winning the long jump.
In all, the Trojan girls won 13 of the day’s 19 events.
Liana Arquette was a double winner for MDI placing first in the javelin with a throw of 76 feet, 4 inches, and first in the shot put with a throw of 27 feet, 2 inches.
Also for MDI, Destiny Kanu won the 300-meter hurdles in 49.90 seconds; Heather Spurling was first in the 800-meter run in 2:27; Amanda MacLeod won the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 6 inches; Kristen was first in the triple jump with a distance of 27 feet, 5 inches; and Alexis Baxter topped pole vaulters with a height of 7 feet, 6 inches.
The Trojan foursome of CeCelia Palow, Ryann Rourk, Kymry Brooks and Spurling won the four-by-800-meter relay in 11:01.3, and the foursome of Kanu, Kailyn Russell, Bliss Weathers and Spurling won the four-by-400-meter relay in 4:26.80.
For the runner-up Golden Bucks, Liz Beeson was first in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.20 seconds and combined with Kelly Bourgon, Kara Churchill and Molly Hunt to win the four-by-100-meter relay in 56.20 seconds.
Brianne Dunn was a double winner for Ellsworth with times of 5:34.90 in the 1,600-meter run and 12:33.8 in the 3,200-meter run, and Sabrina Debeck won the discus for the Eagles with a throw of 67 feet, 8 inches.
In the boys’ meet, MDI’s Cummings had a great day, winning the 300-meter hurdles in 45.40 seconds, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches to win the high jump and soaring to a height of 12 feet to win the pole vault.
The Trojans dominated the throwing events, getting wins from Carl Ferm in the javelin with a distance of 150 feet, 3 inches; Camden Fernald in the discus with a throw of 114 feet, 5 inches; and Dan Hales in the shot put with a distance of 43 feet, 3.25 inches.
Also for the Trojans, Abe Gladstone won the 110-meter hurdles in 17.60 seconds, and the foursome of Paul Burnell, Sam Swann, Cam Klausky and Jeremy McQuinn won the four-by-800-meter relay in 9:11.8.
For Bucksport, Dominic Kone was a triple winner with times of 10.80 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 22.30 seconds in the 200-meter dash and a distance of 20 feet, 8 inches in the long jump.
Jon Goodin won the triple jump for the Golden Bucks with a distance of 39 feet, 1.5 inches; Vincent Tymoczko won the 400-meter dash in 51.70 seconds; and Kone, Goodin and Tymoczko combined with Nate Warren to win the four-by-100-meter relay in 45.10 seconds.
For Ellsworth, Matt Walton won the 1,600-meter racewalk in 9:19.10, Ben Chapman won the 1,600-meter run in 4:40.90, Jeremiah Roper won the 3,200-meter run in 10:53.30, and the foursome of Kris Kohut, Jakob Jordan, Chrisshawn Fluker and Brandon Duarte won the four-by-400-meter relay in 3:44.60.
Ben Plohr of the GSA Eagles won the 800-meter run in 2:07.70.
