SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Summer Festival of the Arts’ (SFOA) will have its Artist Showcase Gala fundraiser on Friday, June 5, at the Deck House in Southwest Harbor.
Tickets are $35 per person and include hors d’oeuvres, a reprise of George Demas’ (of the former George’s Restaurant) famous spaghetti and salad, dessert and stellar entertainment provided by SFOA’s talented teaching artists, participants and friends. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased by calling 244-3855 or e-mailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
“The gala has become more popular each year, and this will surely be a sell-out event,” said SFOA’s executive director Frank Bachman. “We’ve got an amazing show planned that includes a terrific cast of entertainers associated with SFOA, and they are going all out to guarantee a great evening in support of a great cause,” said Mr. Bachman.
This year’s offerings include performances by Phil Kell and his SFOA Rockers, Weslea Sidon, magic by Aidan Pasha and Dr. Wilson, and a performance by the Deck House Players. Also slated to perform are Ann Bahr, Bronwyn Kortge, David Lamon, Jackie Bachman, Mary Stanley, Sean Keady, Stephanie Leonardi, Anna-Rose Keefe and more.
In addition to George Demas preparing his fondly remembered spaghetti and salad, delicious fare will be provided by Fiddler’s Green, Red Sky, McKay’s, Mama DiMatteo’s, Sips, Morning Glory Bakery, Michelle’s at the Ivy Manor, Galyn’s, Cas Ole’ and others. There will be a cash bar.
The first Artist Showcase Gala fundraiser was held in 2005 to raise money for Summer Festival of the Arts while sharing the talents of SFOA collaborators, friends and teachers with the community. Now celebrating its 30th anniversary, Summer Festival of the Arts has touched the lives of more than 5,000 young people since its inception in 1979. Each summer, SFOA hires professional teaching artists in a broad range of disciplines to share their talents, providing training and inspiration to students ages 6 to 16, their families and the community. Camp runs from July 6 to July 24, at MDI High School.
