Surry man accused of filming co-workers in bathroom

Written by  Steve Fuller Monday, June 17, 2013 at 4:18 pm

ELLSWORTH — A Surry man has been summoned after police said he hid a video camera in a bathroom at his Ellsworth workplace and secretly filmed co-workers.

Keithley Stanley, 42, was charged Monday afternoon with one count of invasion of privacy, a Class D misdemeanor offense.

Detective Dotty Small of the Ellsworth Police Department said the District Attorney’s Office will determine if Stanley will be charged with additional counts.

Small said Stanley is alleged to have “placed a video recording device in a unisex, employee-only restroom” at an Ellsworth business. She said a half-dozen individuals were filmed.

An employee found the small video camera — Small said it is two inches long by three-quarters of an inch wide — in a mop bucket while cleaning on Friday.

Small said it is not known exactly how long the camera had been there before it was discovered.

Stanley has no prior criminal record prior to being charged Monday, Small said. She said she was not sure how long Stanley had worked at the business, but said he was not a new employee.

Small said she did not know what action Stanley’s employer might have taken regarding his employment there. She did say, however, that in addition to the summons Stanley had been issued a notice warning him not to return to the business property.

Stanley is due in Ellsworth District Court on Tuesday, Aug. 20 to answer to the charge against him.
