ORLAND — The 42 voters who attended the annual Town Meeting on June 12 were evenly split about supporting a proposed three-turbine wind energy project.
The nonbinding straw vote failed to pass after ending in a 21-21 tie.
Eolian Renewable Energy of Portsmouth, N.H., wants to construct three 9-megawatt turbines on White’s Mountain and Dodge Hill. Eolian representatives requested the straw vote to gauge community support prior to officially applying for local and state permits.

In the municipal elections held June 12, Selectman Lester Stackpole was re-elected. He received 98 votes. Brenda Leavitt finished second with 95 and Dana Doane received 49.
