Falcon chicks spotted

ACADIA NAT’L PARK — The adult peregrines at the Precipice on Champlain Mountain have at least two chicks and possibly three.

The nest site is high up on the cliff face and behind some vegetation, two factors that make it difficult to see into the nest, said Bruce Connery, resource management specialist at Acadia.

To protect the nesting efforts, trails will remain closed for approximately five weeks after the chicks fledge or earlier at sites where Connery establishes there are no chicks.

Beginning on July 1, the park will have an interpretive ranger in the Precipice parking lot with spotting scopes from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday weather permitting.
