WINTER HARBOR — Artist Carol Michaud sometime ago inherited a box of photographs from relatives depicting Winter Harbor from the early 1900s into the 1960s.

Scanning the photos left to her by her parents and grandparents “I realized that many of the people, places or things in the photos were no longer there,” she said.

Michaud then decided she wanted to create art from the photographs that told a story.

The result will be on view May 5-31 at Hammond Hall in Winter Harbor. The opening is May 5 from 1 to 4 p.m.

The pieces are in acrylic, oil, encaustic and mixed media using copies of the vintage photographs.

Although many of the images were left to her, Michaud rounded out the collection with photos from the Winter Harbor Historical Society and from longtime residents Shirley Chase and Sheldon Bickford.

“I am always looking for more pictures and would love to have people contact me if they want to share some,” Michaud said.
