DCP withdraws application for propane terminal in Searsport

SEARSPORT—A proposal to develop a $40 million liquid propane gas terminal and storage tank at Mack Point in Searsport has been withdrawn by the applicant, DCP Midstream of Denver.

Roz Elliott, a spokesperson for the company, said Tuesday the tipping points in the company’s decision were votes by the Planning Board last week.

“They were beginning deliberations, voting on certain standards and taking very different views than federal and state standards,” she said.

Elliott said it was apparent where things were headed.

“We didn’t think it was necessary to continue the pathway forward given their deliberations,” she said.

The Planning Board last week voted 5-0 that certain aspects of the project did not meet Searsport ordinances.
