Franklin voters approve gun ownership resolution

FRANKLIN — Although there was some doubt the resolution would have any legal standing, the citizens of Franklin voted March 30 to preserve their right to bear arms.

The resolution approved at Town Meeting states that any federal and state laws or actions that would prohibit a right to bear arms would be invalid in Franklin.

The resolution, which was approved 30-10 on a written ballot, was proposed by Renee Trust.

In other action, voters at the municipal election March 29 re-elected Bob Fernald as town clerk, Robert Cossette as selectman, Hugh Hooper as tax assessor and Roy Gott as the town’s representative on the Regional School Unit 24 (RSU 24) Board.

In the one contested race incumbent Selectman Joey Smith won his seat 108-76 over rival candidate Dawn Carter.
