Update: Penobscot Narrows Bridge scene of suicide

Written by  Jennifer Osborn Monday, April 01, 2013 at 3:36 pm

BUCKSPORT — A young Eddington man died after jumping off the Penobscot Narrows Bridge Monday.

Waldo County Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton said the man was Brandon Cossette, 25.

“There were several eye witnesses so there is no question about what happened,” Trafton said. “But why is always a struggle.”

Two of the eyewitnesses were Cossette’s parents.

“I do know the parents were with him when he stopped the vehicle and jumped out,” said Trafton.

Police are still investigating the incident.

The Bucksport and Prospect fire departments were called to assist in the recovery.

Prospect Fire Chief Tim Terry said a work barge happened to be near the area where Cossette landed. Those workers, who are taking down the Waldo-Hancock Bridge, pulled Cossette’s body from the Penobscot River.

Cossette graduated from Husson University in 2010 with a degree in computer science.
