BAR HARBOR — At the tail of its regular season, the Mount Desert Island High School swim team lost its first meet with rival Bangor High School on Jan. 25.
Bangor edged out the MDI boys’ team by 15 points with a final tally of 100 to 85 in 12 events, including diving. The MDI girls lost to Bangor by just 2 points with a score of 94 to 92.
The Lady Trojans were led by swimmer Erin Connery, who placed first in the 200-yard freestyle event in a time of 2:05.98. Connery also placed first in the 500-yard freestyle event, finishing nearly six seconds ahead of second place finisher Alyssa Reardon, from Bangor, in a time of 5:40.56.
Trojan Amelia Kief placed first in the 50-yard freestyle event in a time of 26.19, more than half a second before teammate Olivia Jacobs, who placed second in a time of 26.78. Dominique Comeau, from Bangor, placed third in a time of 27.81.
The MDI boys’ team placed first in the 200-yard medley relay with swimmers Ross Johnston, Thomas Gallup, Madison Luck, and Sam Jacobson. They finished the event in a time of 1:43.26, or more than 2 seconds in front of the Bangor medley team that finished in a time of 1:45.63.
Johnston also won the 200-yard individual medley relay in a time of 2:03.03, or three seconds ahead of the second place swimmer from Bangor, Liam Reading. Gallup placed fourth with a time of 2:15.51.
MDI’s Johnston also placed first in the 100-yard backstroke.
The MDI boys led diving. Will Greene placed first with 205.40 points in six dives. Bryce DiMauro placed fifth with 123.25 points, behind Bangor divers in second, third, and fourth.
Madison Luck placed first in the 500-yard freestyle event in a time of 5:24.35. The MDI boys also won the 200-yard freestyle relay event in a time of 1:43.07. That team included Tyler Wood, Pierce DiMauro, Nathaniel Genrich, and Jacobson.
The MDI swimming team has one meet scheduled before the PVCs – John Bapst, away, on Feb. 1. The PVCs are scheduled Feb. 8, for boys, and Feb. 9, for girls at Husson University.
