SURRY — With its membership having dwindled to five people, the Surry United Methodist Church is closing Dec. 9.
Northern Maine United Methodist District Superintendent Rev. Dr. Pat MacHugh will lead a service of deconsecration and closing that day with Pastor Barbara Drisko.
MacHugh said there were fewer and fewer people attending the church and financially it was becoming difficult to maintain the church.
The service will begin with a reception at 2 p.m.
The church, which is located on the Surry Road, will be sold, MacHugh said.
MacHugh couldn’t remember when the church formed but said it was over 100 years old.
