SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Louie Luchini, 32, of Ellsworth won the waterlogged Mount Desert Island Marathon here on Sunday, beating his old course record by more than a minute with a time of 2:30:41. Luchini is a state representative for the Ellsworth area.
P.J. Gorneault, 33 of Caribou was second with a time of 2:35:21. Other top ten finishers from Maine included Evan Graves, 31, of Caribou, who finished fifth overall in a time of 2:39:37 and Eric Rudolph, 28, of Ellsworth who finished sixth overall with a time of 2:40:45.
Heather Carlson, 27, of Brighton, Mass, was the first female finisher crossing breaking through the tape with a time of 3:09:02. The first female finisher from Maine was Amanda La Belle, 28 of Rockland with a time of 3:18:35.
The first individual female finisher from Mount Desert Island was Jessica Roper, 25, of Bar Harbor with a time of 3:21.46.
The first individual male runner from MDI to finish was Stephen Whalen, 50, of Bernard who came in 39th overall.
Other Maine and MDI residents finished in relay teams that logged faster times.
