DEER ISLE -- Chris Ernest Heanssler passed away Aug. 21, 2012, at the age of 39. He was born Nov. 16, 1972, in Blue Hill, to Richard and Bonnie (Cleveland) Heanssler.

Chris graduated from Deer Isle-Stonington High School in 1991 and went on to attend the Maine Maritime Academy and graduated from Southern Maine Technical College. He owned and operated F/V Jackie O out of Stonington. Chris was an advocate for the fishing industry, helping to create the Maine Lobstermen’s Heritage Association. Chris’ greatest joy was spending time with his wife and daughters, picnicking on the local islands, digging a mess of clams or playing catch in the yard. He enjoyed time in the kitchen teaching the girls his favorite recipes, and many hours playing cribbage with his wife. He was quick to help those in need or offer a joke. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Howard Cleveland and Clifford Heanssler. Chris is survived by his loving wife, Cindi Eaton Heanssler; his daughters, Olivia Rose Heanssler and Jacqueline Faith Heanssler; his brother, Brent and his wife, Kristin Heanssler, of Scarborough, and their children, Andrew and Delaney; his brother, Scott and his wife, Susan Heanssler, of Deer Isle, and their children, Tyler, Zachary and Caleb; grandmothers, Barbara Cleveland of Stonington and Mary Heanssler of Deer Isle; his Aunt Marie and her husband, Blaine Hutchinson, of Deer Isle, and their son, Casey Spofford; his uncle, Garry Cleveland of Stonington; special friend, Johnson Boyce of Deer Isle, the son he always wanted; his in-laws, Jonathan and Sheila Eaton of Brooklin; his brother-in-law, Brian Eaton of Deer Isle.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at the Congregational Church of Deer Isle, Church Street, Deer Isle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to his daughters through the Heanssler College Trust at Bar Harbor Bank, Deer Isle, ME 04627. Arrangements by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Stonington.
