Fellowship is among the highest honors the ASLA bestows on members and recognizes the contributions of individuals to their profession and society at large based on their works, leadership and management, knowledge, and service.
The designation of Fellow is conferred on individuals in recognition of exceptional accomplishments over a sustained period of time. In conferring the honor in the category of Works of Landscape Architecture, an ASLA spokesman noted: “Samuel Coplon's contributions have lent considerable visibility to landscape architecture in his region. His work in fostering cluster development, affordable housing, and resource protection has had…national and regional influence.
“Mr. Coplon has the range to craft intimate residential landscapes as well as public, institutional, and historically significant projects. His ability to transform prosaic land forms into extraordinary landscape designs has made his firm essential in the eyes of clients nationwide.”
Mr. Coplon will be formally invested into the ASLA Council of Fellows at the Society’s annual meeting in September.
Mr. Coplon is the founding principal of Coplon Associates Landscape Architecture and Planning, which is celebrating its twenty fifth year of practice in Bar Harbor. The firm’s broad design experience includes projects ranging in scale from intimate residential gardens to the master planning of large properties and campuses.
Some of the firm’s recent local work includes projects for Acadia National Park, College of the Atlantic, University of Maine, Husson University and numerous residential commissions. Other significant commissions include rehabilitation plans for historic carriage road systems in New York, affordable housing projects in Massachusetts and designs for private properties extending from Cape Breton Island to Florida and west to Wyoming.
