BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island Toastmasters Club has achieved the President’s Distinguished Club Award, the highest level of recognition a local Toastmasters Club can receive. The Club, which began in April 2011 with the help of sponsorship from the MDI YMCA, will be recognized at the Toastmasters International Convention in Orlando, Florida, later this month.
The Distinguished Club Program is a way to measure the performance of a Toastmasters Club as an educational entity. To earn the award, the club members must achieve specific goals in both the communication and leadership tracks. There are three levels of awards; President's Distinguished is the top of three award levels. Goals met by MDI Toastmasters members include the achievement of Triple Crown Awards by both Robin Wade and Bob Bechtold, who completed the Competent Leader, the Competent Communicator and Advanced Communicator Bronze awards. Sarah Clemens and Cynthia Ocel completed their Competent Communicator awards.
“We’re very proud of what we have accomplished this past year, but are also excited to build on this momentum for the upcoming year,” says Robin Wade, current Club President.
The MDI Toastmasters Club meets the first and third Wednesday from 6-7pm at Birch Bay Village and the second and fourth Monday from noon to 1 pm at the MDI Hospital in Bar Harbor. Visitors are welcome and pre-registration is not required.
