Melcher Exhibit to Open

MOUNT DESERT — The Northeast Harbor Library will host an opening reception for their August art exhibit of portraits of local residents painted by Betsy Flagg Melcher on Monday, Aug. 6, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The exhibit, curated by Ann Kinney, will feature approximately 25 portraits on loan from private collections.

The late Mrs. Melcher’s work includes well known people, such as Marguerite Yourcenar, Mrs. Brooke Astor, Mrs. August Belmont, Jr., Admiral and Mrs. Samuel Eliot Morison and Mary Parkman Peabody. The portraits are accompanied by short biographies.

The exhibit will be open to the public during regular library open hours through Aug. 26.

The opening reception is free and open to the public. Call 276-3333.
