SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Marion Fickett Colson, 84, went to be with the Lord July 21, 2012. She was born Jan. 28, 1928, in Lewiston, to James and Josephine (Kroph) Fickett.
She grew up in Maine and Massachusetts, graduating from Hingham High School in 1946 and from the School of Attendant Nursing in 1948. On July 22, 1950, she married Willard Colson. For three-plus years they lived in Dyers Bay and Prospect Harbor. In 1954, they moved to Southwest Harbor and raised three children. Marion became a wonderful homemaker and baker. Providing for her family was a constant concern and she took great pride in her children and grandchildren. During the holidays she would make her rounds to friends, local banks and merchants, delivering home-baked cookies. She remembered her friends with birthday, anniversary, get well and holiday cards. For many years, during the summer months, she and Willard would pack up their kids and several others and enjoy the family camp on Spring River Lake. After the nest was empty, Willard surprised her with the home of their retirement — Marion’s dream home — which she was able to enjoy up to the end of her life. She never had to leave her home, which she loved dearly, until her final illness. She was greatly entertained every day by her black cat, Rascal, and George, the seagull, who was a frequent dinner guest. She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching the games with her husband, and could be quite disappointed when they lost a game.
She is survived by her husband, Willard Colson; son, Peter and wife, Cindy, and their son, William, of Winter Harbor, their daughter, Jessica, and her husband, Chris Richardson, of Bangor; daughter, Sarah Colson and her husband, Clifford Dempster, and their sons, Adam and Lucas, of New Hampshire; son, Lee and his children, Wyatt and Molly of Colorado.
At Marion’s request, graveside prayers and services will be private. Remembrance donations may be made to the Southwest Harbor Ambulance Service. Arrangements by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Ellsworth.
