BAR HARBOR — Righthander Connor Morey pitched a one-hitter, striking out six batters in five innings, as the Coastal All-Stars captured the District 1 Senior League championship with a 12-0 win over the Acadians of Mount Desert Island on Sunday.
Coastal jumped on Acadian righthander Jon Phelps for five runs, batting through the order, in the first inning.
Finn McMahon-Allwine got things started with a leadoff single.
One out later, Anthony Bianco singled and Morey followed with a two-run double.
Morey was erased from the bases on a fielder’s choice, but Gabe Stearns was hit by a Phelps pitch, Cooper Smallidge then doubled to drive in two more and Smallidge scored on a single by Tyler Robbins for a 5-0 Coastal lead.
Phelps opened the bottom of the inning with a leadoff single for the Acadians, but that proved to be the only hit of the afternoon off Morey.
With righthander Steven Mahon on in relief for the Acadians, Coastal added a run in the second inning when Loriman Looke walked, advanced on a single by Bianco and scored on an Acadian error.
Robbins reached on another error by the Acadians in the third inning, advanced to second on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly by McMahon-Allwine for a 7-0 Coastal lead.
In the fourth, Stearns drew a one-out walk, went to second on a walk to Smallidge and scored on a single by Scott Barker.
Coastal capped its scoring with four runs in the fifth inning.
Looke walked, Bianco doubled and Ryan Littlefield came on as the third Acadian pitcher of the day.
Morey was given an intentional pass to load the bases, but the strategy backfired as Marriner Cheney drilled a first-pitch single into center field to drive in two runs.
Morey scored on a sacrifice fly by Smallidge, and Robbins singled to drive in Wes Herrick, who had replaced Cheney on the basepath.
In the bottom of the fifth, Morey walked leadoff batter Dakota Stewart but then retired the next three battlers to give Coastal the mercy rule win.
With just Coastal and the Acadians in District 1 Senior League this year, the tournament was essentially a best-of-three playoff between the two teams.
Coastal won the opener 8-3 but the Acadians forced a third game with an 11-6 win on Friday in Blue Hill.
