Graffiti featuring the image of a diamond has been appearing around Ellsworth in the past couple of weeks.

ELLSWORTH — Vandals have bejeweled the city’s downtown.
Spray-painted graffiti featuring what appears to be a diamond has appeared on roads, businesses, mailboxes and vehicles in the past two weeks.
Ellsworth Police Detective Dotty Small says she appreciates art, but this is not it. Graffiti can be very difficult and sometimes pricey to remove, she said.
“I don’t know what the diamond means,” Small added.
The graffiti has been spotted on Red Bridge Road and Grant, Hancock and Church streets. A wooden platform at Downeast Scenic Railroad, vehicles at Allen’s Blueberry Freezer and a trailer at Goodwill also have been tagged.
Police say this kind of vandalism is not common in the city. The last string of graffiti crimes was in 2010.
Small asks that anyone with information about the graffiti call her at 667-2168 or leave an anonymous message at 669-6614.
