Ferne W. Brown

MOUNT DESERT — Ferne W. Brown, 91, died July 5, 2012, at a Mount Desert Island health-care facility. She was born Sept. 10, 1920, the daughter of Warren and Evelina (Stanley) Walker.

Ferne married Julian R. Brown in 1939. They lived their lives in Mount Desert, raising a family and enjoying the life of the community. Ferne loved to dance and lived to do so. She was a lifetime member of the Somesville Union Meeting House, UCC and the Eastern Star of Mount Desert, a former member of the Lioness Club and the Mount Desert Women’s Literary Club.

Ferne is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Thomas and husband, Barry, of Mount Desert and Mary Mitchell and husband, Ken, of Ellsworth; six grandchildren, Kim, Karen, Michael, Troy, Lisa and Bret; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Julian in 1982; an infant son, Carroll Brown; and a granddaughter, Katie Monighetti Mitchell.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012, at the Somesville Union Meeting House, UCC, Main Street, with the Rev. Victor Stanley presiding. Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery, Mount Desert. Those who desire may make gifts in Ferne’s memory to the Mount Desert Women’s Literary Club Scholarship Fund, P.O.
