TREMONT — Franklin H. Price will present a talk titled “Maritime and Submerged Archeology around Mount Desert Island,” on July 9 at 7 p.m., at the Bass Harbor Library in Bernard.
Mr. Price is a Senior Archeologist with the Florida Bureau of Archeological Research and has an MA in Maritime Studies from East Carolina University. In 2009, he led an historical investigation of shipwreck accounts in the vicinity of Acadia.
Between July 9 and July 14, Mr. Price will help volunteers learn the basics for mapping and documenting a wreck site on MDI through Acadia National Park. The site is exposed at low tide about mid-morning. Accessing the site requires hiking down a steep bank, crossing wet and slippery rocks and working in muddy, wet conditions.
