AUGUSTA — The National Marine Fisheries Service will open the fishery for non-sandbar large coastal sharks (LCS) on July 15. In accordance with the Interstate Fisheries Management plan for Atlantic coastal sharks, Maine may open their fishery on July 15.
The 2012 federal porbeagle shark has been harvested and the fishery closed on May 24, to remain closed for the rest of the season. Fisheries for shark species including spiny dogfish will all open on July 15. Contact Chris Vonderweidt for assistance at 703-842-0740.
