ELLSWORTH — Julie Edwards, 47, and Patrick A. Jordan, 43, both of Ellsworth, are facing felony drug trafficking charges after Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agents closed in on them in the parking lot of a High Street motel Wednesday afternoon.
According to a release from the MDEA, Edwards and Jordan face charges of trafficking in Oxycodone after drugs were seized from Jordan’s vehicle just before 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
Jordan is president of R.F. Jordan & Sons Construction Inc. He is also president of the board of the James Russell Wiggins Down East Family YMCA. He was bailed Wednesday afternoon. Arraignment has been scheduled for Sept. 18 in Hancock County Superior Court.
MDEA agents became aware that Jordan was scheduled to meet with Edwards in the parking lot of a motel on High Street to take possession of drugs he already had purchased. Agents put the area under surveillance and, once the pair met and separated, MDEA agents and Ellsworth police stopped Jordan’s vehicle and searched it. From two locations in the vehicle, MDEA agents seized a total of eighty-seven 30-milligram Oxycodone tablets, valued at $3,500. Agents also seized $4,495 in cash that is alleged to be proceeds from the sale of drugs.
MDEA agents charged Jordan and Edwards with unlawful trafficking in Oxycodone, a Class B felony, and Edwards also is charged with violation of conditions of release. Edwards was on bail for possession of Oxycodone.
Under Maine law, the maximum prison term for a Class B offense is 10 years.
The MDEA said the investigation is not over and it is possible that others involved may be charged. The Maine Office of the Attorney General will be reviewing the case for prosecution.
Anyone with information on this or other drug crimes may contact MDEA at (800) 452-6457, at MDEA’s website at www.maine.gov./dps/mdea or MDEA’s smartphone application for iPhone and Android at MyPD.
