NEWPORT — The Mount Desert Island Trojan varsity softball team fell 5-3 in the preliminary round of the Eastern Maine Class B softball playoffs on Wednesday against the Nokomis Warriors.
Three errors and eight walks made up for Nokomis’ lackluster performance at bat. The Warriors only had one hit on right hander Hannah Shaw. Shaw struck out ten.
Warrior ace Sarah Packard allowed two hits and four walks but struck out 12.
Nokomis scored two unearned runs in the second inning to jump out ahead of MDI, 2-0. The Warriors added another run in the third inning after a lead-off walk. The runner stole second and scored on a sacrifice fly.
Hannah Shaw and Danika Kanu were the only Trojan batters that posted hits.
The Trojans wrap up their season 10-7, one of the best records the team has posted in recent years.
MDI’s 2012 Varsity Softball Team players include: Sierra Myrick, Abbie Burton, Shelby O’Neil, Alyssa Young, Hannah Shaw, Kate Walker, Lindsay Pettigrew, Haley Littlefield, Danika Kanu, Abbie Jewett, Molly Carroll, Bridget Parady, and Kaitlin Orr.
