Patriots Nip Mariners

Written by  Hugh Bowden Friday, June 08, 2012 at 11:19 am

BANGOR — Consecutive two-out, two-strike singles by Dave Peters and Kyle Holmes in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Bangor Christian Patriots to a 2-1 win over the Mariners.

Both pitchers went the distance with Cody Collins allowing four hits for the Patriots and Sam Grindle scattering seven hits for the Mariners.

DI-Stonington took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Grindle singled, stole two bases and scored on a groundout by Connor Morey.

Grindle and the Mariner defense made that lead stand up through six innings.

Zac Palmeter had three singles for the fourth-ranked Patriots, and Grindle singled twice for the Mariners, who finished with a 13-5 record.
