Jalysa’s Closet Closing After 21 Years

Written by  Fenceviewer Staff Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 4:01 pm

ELLSWORTH — Water Street thrift store Jalysa’s Closet is closing this summer after 21 years in business.

Owner Kim Profenno said she is closing the store to focus on a shop she opened earlier this month in her hometown of Searsport. That business is Gingerbread House Antiques.

Like Jalysa’s, Profenno’s new business will carry clothing and jewelry in addition to antiques.

“I started this business to feed my kids and it did,” she said.

Profenno said she will miss all the people she’s met over the years, but she’s tired of the daily commute from Searsport.

Profenno is selling the two-story building that houses the thrift shop and two apartments.

She will close the shop near the end of summer. Meanwhile, all merchandise is 50 percent off.
