Mariners Stomp Cougars

Written by  Hugh Bowden Wednesday, June 06, 2012 at 3:17 pm

DEER ISLE — Righthander Connor Morey pitched a six-inning one-hitter as the Mariners rolled to an 11-1 Class D playoff win over the Katahdin Cougars.

“Connor was the key,” said coach Darren Eaton. “He did an excellent job of changing speeds and keeping them off balance.”

Morey struck out six and walked three and helped his own cause at the plate, driving in four runs with a pair of singles.

Joe Condon also contributed an RBI double, Nick Trundy had a two-run single and Hayden Ciomei doubled and singled for the fifth-seeded Mariners, who improved to 13-4.

They are slated to face the second-seeded Bangor Christian Patriots in Thursday’s quarterfinal in Bangor.
