Dine and Dasher gets Just Desserts

BAR HARBOR — A Texas man ended up in Hancock County Jail May 22 after allegedly skipping out on paying a $24 check at a local restaurant.

Police say Robert Karnes, 30, of Haltom City, walked out of Cherrystones restaurant, on the corner of Main and Mount Desert streets downtown, without paying his bill. He was located by officers just a short time later around the corner on Pleasant Street, and was taken back to the restaurant.

Mr. Karnes then allegedly took off running, leading officers on another search downtown. He was apprehended on Newton Way a few minutes later and arrested on a charge of theft of services, and was taken to the jail in Ellsworth.

Brian Stanwood, 26, of Steuben, was arrested Sunday while walking on Main Street on a charge of violating the conditions of his bail not to consume alcohol.

Ashley Kidder, 24, of Gouldsboro, was arrested Sunday on Main Street on a charge of domestic assault.

A man and woman vacationing together from Massachusetts were warned to stay away from each other after arguing over money at an Eden Street hotel on Sunday.

Stephen M. Gray, 32, of Bar Harbor, was arrested Sunday at a Woodbury Road residence on a charge of domestic violence criminal threatening.

Macaulay M. Lerman, 20, of Old Greenwich, Conn., was summonsed May 24 at a Pleasant Street residence on a charge of tattooing without a license. Mr. Lerman allegedly tattooed several people at a dorm at College of the Atlantic this spring, police said.

Tracy Voye, 31, of Bangor, was arrested Saturday on Main Street on a charge of operating while under the influence (OUI).

Police intervened in an argument at a Glen Mary Road residence early Sunday.

Jacob Cyr, 23, of Ellsworth, was summonsed Monday while walking on Main Street on a charge of assault after police responded to a call from a man who said he was about to get beat up.

Elizabeth A. Farrell, 18, of Hattiesburg, Miss., was summonsed Saturday on Cottage Street on a charge of possession of alcohol by a minor by consumption.

A man was warned for trespassing at the Harborside Hotel Jacuzzi on Sunday.

Gretchen E. Matteson, 21, of Mount Desert, was arrested May 23 on the Eagle Lake Road on a charge of OUI.

A Newton Way man who was intoxicated was warned for harassment after reportedly chasing his neighbor’s cat and slamming his door repeatedly Saturday.

Three young men in a van were warned for sleeping in public on Newport Drive on Saturday.

Christopher M. Leighton, 23, of Ellsworth, was summonsed May 25 on Route 3 on a charge of speeding.

Brian W. Harding, 24, of Bar Harbor, was arrested Sunday on Betsy’s Way on a warrant for failure to appear in court.

A Connecticut man was warned May 25 for performing music in the street.

A Route 3 resident was warned May 24 for violating town ordinance prohibiting the use of fireworks.

Joshua J. Dell Aquila, 20, of Cape Elizabeth, was summonsed May 23 on Route 102 on a charge of speeding.

Taylor Sanborn, 19, of Southwest Harbor, was summonsed May 23 on Firefly Lane on a charge of possession of alcohol by a minor.

Scotty Hopkins, 45, of Mount Desert, was summonsed May 23 on Eden Street on a charge of failure to provide proof of insurance.

Robert G. Bergman, 30, of Hancock, was summonsed May 23 on Route 3 on a charge of speeding.

Derek Hutchinson, 30, of Sullivan, was summonsed May 22 on Route 3 on a seatbelt violation and for operating with an open container of alcohol.

Police issued 42 warnings for speeding and other traffic violations this week.

Mount Desert

Two Massachusetts men were charged May 24 with weapons violations following a traffic stop in Somesville.

Ryan Johnson, 21, of Stoughton, Mass. was arrested on a charge of OUI and summonsed on a charge of possessing dangerous knives. His passenger, John Reardon, 23, of Ware, Mass. was summonsed on a charge of criminal possession of a firearm. According to police, Mr. Reardon was found to be in possession of a handgun for which he had no concealed weapons permit.

Michael Dame, 32, of no given town in Rhode Island was charged with operating after suspension Monday after police received a complaint of an erratic driver in Northeast Harbor.

Vandals tore flowers out of the planters on the bridge crossing the Mill Pond in Somesville. The complainant told police Sunday that the flowers had been planted just two days earlier.

Southwest Harbor

Police responded Friday to a complaint from a Long Pond Road resident that an intoxicated man was trashing the home and they wanted him removed. The unwelcome guest was gone by the time police arrived.

An elderly man found injured along the Freeman Ridge Road May 23 declined treatment from the Southwest Harbor-Tremont Ambulance Service.

A caller told police May 22 that someone has been sleeping in a vacant seasonal home without permission. The squatter was not located.
