SURRY — Police, fire and ambulance personnel responded to the Surry Market shortly before noon Thursday after a vehicle went off Route 172 and into a ditch in front of the business.
A member of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said at the scene that he did not yet have any information to release about the incident.
The vehicle, a dark blue Volvo SUV with New York license plates, was facing in the direction of Blue Hill, but people who live nearby and heard the screeching tires and came to the scene said it had been heading toward Ellsworth when it went off the road.
Long tire marks in the road leading toward the ditch seemed to confirm that.
There were reportedly two people in the vehicle, but the extent of any injuries they might have suffered was not immediately known.
