ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth Eagles and the Mount Desert Island Trojans came up empty last week in opportunities to climb — perhaps into a home-field advantage — in the Eastern Maine Class B baseball standings.
Instead, the 8-7 Trojans remained in sixth place and the 6-9 Eagles dropped from seventh to 11th.
In both instances, the third-ranked John Bapst Crusaders were the villains.
Ellsworth is scheduled to host the Trojans today to wrap up the regular season.
The Bucksport Golden Bucks currently are ranked fifth in the Eastern Maine Class C standings and the 9-6 George Stevens Academy Eagles are ninth.
The 4-11 Sumner Tigers currently are ranked 12th — on the outside looking in.
But the Tigers are slated to close out their season today at Bucksport, and a win for Sumner could easily boost them into playoff contention.
