Eagles, Trojans Win Six Titles

BREWER — Athletes of the Ellsworth Eagles and Mount Desert Island Trojans won titles in six events at Saturday’s Penobscot Valley Conference Large Schools Outoor Track Championships.

Sophomore Aleta Looker of the Eagles was a double winner, taking top honors in the 800-meter run in 2:18.38 and the 1,600-meter run in 5:19.84.

In the team girls’ team competition, the Bangor Rams finished first with 164.3 points, followed by Caribou at 89.3, Old Town 87, Brewer 70, MDI 61, Hampden 38.3, Ellsworth 37, Hermon 28 and Presque Isle 13.

A trio of MDI Trojans took the first three positions in the 3,200-meter run. Maggie Painter was first in 11:55.89, Nora Hubbell was runner-up in 12:06.31 and Caroline Driscoll was third in 12:11.35.

The MDI foursome of Olivia Erickson, Painter, Malia Demers and Isabel Erickson was first in the four-by-800-meter relay, just 1.6 seconds off the PVC record with a time of 9:52.72.

Also for MDI:

Bailey Burr was third in the triple jump at 32 feet, 9 inches, and fifth in the long jump at 15 feet, .25 inch.

Isabel Erickson was third in 2:25.02 and Hubbell fifth in the 2:33.72 in the 800-meter run.

Rebecca Planchart was fourth and Isabel Erickson fifth, both clearing 4 feet, 8 inches, in the high jump.

Demers placed fifth in 5:45.60 and Olivia Erickson sixth in 5:45.62 in the 1,600-meter run.

Catie Smith was sixth in the pole vault at 8 feet.

The foursome of Cecilia Thomas, Kayla Ray, Emily Lewis and Emma Fernald was sixth in the four-by-400-meter relay in 4:37.11.

Others scoring for Ellsworth:

Tori Huntley was second with a throw of 84 feet, 3 inches, in the javelin, and fifth with a throw of 28 feOlivia Erickson, et, 3 inches, in the shot put.

Lauren Barkhouse was fourth in the pole vault, clearing 8 feet.

Haley Lawrence was fifth in the 3,200-meter run in 12:30.63.

The foursome of Lawrence, Brooke Dunn, Mallory Nightingale and Jamie Ford was sixth in the four-by-800-meter relay in 11:29.59.

In the boys’ competition, Bangor also took top honors with 134 points, followed by Hampden 113, Brewer 89, Caribou 67, Presque Isle 48, Ellsworth 46, MDI 40, Old Town 34 and Hermon 18.

Sophomore Dan Curts led the way for Ellsworth, winning the 3,200-meter run in 9:38.86 and combining with Blake Pattengale, Kody Holmes and Robert Looker for second in the four-by-800-meter relay in 8:26.09.

Also scoring for the Eagles:

The foursome of Brandon St. Germain, Jack Weeks, Maks Grover and Ben Conners placed second in the four-by-100-meter relay in 46.15 seconds.

Weeks also placed third in the 200-meter dash in 24.80 seconds and fifth in the 400-meter dash in 53.76 seconds.

Robert Looker was fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 10:22.

Dan Cox was fourth in the discus with a throw of 115 feet, 10 inches.

Holmes was fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:09.15.

The foursome of Weeks, Pattengale, Jeff Weeks and Conners was fifth in the four-by-400-meter relay in 3:43.35.

Jayson Burke was the top winner for the Trojan boys, placing first in the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, 6.5 inches.

Also for the Trojans:

Chris Clemens was second in the triple jump with a distance of 39 feet, 1.75 inches.

The foursome of Clemens, Will Richard, Brandon Murphy and Richard Helmke was third in the four-by-400-meter relay in 3:40.18.

Tom Reilly was fourth in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet.

Helmke was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:04.78.

The foursome of Murphy, Reilly, Clemens and Helmke was fourth in the four-by-100-meter relay in 46.69 seconds.

Aaron Miller was fifth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches.

Sean Harding was sixth in the javelin with a throw of 128 feet, 9 inches.

The foursome of Jordan Harris, Max Mason, Aidan Robichaud-Ward and Richard was sixth in the four-by-800-meter relay in 9:12.20.

The Trojans will host the State Class B Outdoor Track Championships on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. at MDI High School.
