Crusader Down Eagles in 9

Written by  Hugh Bowden Friday, May 25, 2012 at 10:51 am

BANGOR — On Thursday, the John Bapst Crusaders came up with a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to nip the Ellsworth Eagles 4-3, spoiling a strong pitching performance by Ellsworth’s Del Beckwith.

Beckwith yielded a pair of singles each to Sean O’Donnell and Lucas Wardwell and a triple to Dan Davis while striking out two and walking just two.

The winning run came when Andy Catlin raced home as Shawn Curran grounded into a fielder’s choice.

Jon Deschaine went the distance on the mound for the Crusaders, allowing five hits including a double by Brandon Braley and three singles by Kyle Haslam.
