BUCKSPORT — When John Ford Sr. joined the Maine Warden Service in 1970, his stepfather, a veteran game warden, gave him two pieces of advice.

The first was to treat people with respect. The other was to keep a diary.

Ford took both pieces of advice to heart, and the diaries he kept during his 20-year career in Waldo County formed the basis of a local newspaper column that he wrote for a decade as well as his recently published book, “Suddenly, the Cider Didn’t Taste So Good.”

The book is billed as a “collection of true tales, some serious, some humorous, and all heartwarming.” Ford, speaking at the Alamo Theatre in Bucksport May 24, said he “wanted to remember the funny things that happened and not the tragedies.”
