Christine Drabek has been chosen as the new director of the Acadia Family Center. Christine Drabek has been chosen as the new director of the Acadia Family Center.

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Acadia Family Center (AFC), which provides resources for alcohol and drug abuse recovery, has hired Christine Drabek as its new executive director, effective Friday, June 1.

She succeeds Ed Oechslie, who announced in February that he would be leaving the nonprofit organization in April.

Ms. Drabek will be responsible for the administration and clinical oversight of AFC’s programs of community education, prevention and outpatient treatment for substance abuse and related mental health problems. The AFC serves Mount Desert Island and surrounding communities.

Ms. Drabek has more than 15 years of experience in addiction treatment in New York City. She trained at the Addiction Institute of New York, provided program leadership at a large substance abuse shelter for homeless men, and managed housing and mental health grants for a nonprofit AIDS organization in Harlem. She also has taught classes for the Alcoholism Council of New York and Lehman College.

The AFC will host a public reception to welcome Ms. Drabek on Wednesday, June 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at its facility on Fernald Point Road in Southwest Harbor.
