BAR HARBOR — Episcopal parishes in Bar Harbor and in Southwest Harbor have joined resources to call a new pastor.
Rev. Timothy Fleck of the Diocese of Lexington, Ky. will split his time between St. Savior’s in Bar Harbor and the Parish of St. Andrew and St. John in Southwest Harbor, in an arrangement praised by parish leaders.
The move will place less financial pressure on each parish, while allowing them to combine forces to reach out to the surrounding communities for charitable works and positive action, parish leaders said.
“We thought we should try to do something different, particularly in dealing with our demographic challenges, that we really needed to steward our resources in ways that are more life-giving, and not spending all of our time thinking about how we we’re going to raise money,” said Theodore Fletcher, the senior warden of the Southwest Harbor parish.
