ELLSWORTH — When it comes to dominating their opponents, no team has done better this season than the Bucksport Golden Bucks.
With just three games remaining in their regular season, the 13-0 Golden Bucks have pounded opposing pitchers for 202 runs.
At the same time, the Bucks have played mostly flawless defense behind ace righthander Cassidy Adams, who has pitched eight shutouts and given up just nine runs.
So it’s small wonder that the Bucks are firmly ensconced at the top of the Eastern Maine Class C standings, 35 Heal points in front of the second-ranked Calais Blue Devils, who also are undefeated at 11-0.
With just a week to go in the regular season, Bucksport is one of four Hancock County softball teams that appear to be headed for the playoffs.
The seventh-ranked Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners remain the only undefeated team in Eastern Maine Class D with a 12-0 record.
In the very competitive Class B ranks, the 9-5 Ellsworth Eagles are 10th and the 9-4 Mount Desert Island Trojans are 12th among the 13 teams that will qualify for post-season play.
The 2-10 George Stevens Academy Eagles and the 1-11 Sumner Tigers are out of playoff contention in Class C.
