BUCKSPORT — Led by a trio of two-time winners, the Mount Desert Island Trojans captured the boys’ and girls’ Hancock County Outdoor Track Championships on Friday at Carmichael Field.
The Trojan girls got double wins from Cecilia Thomas and Bailey Burr as they piled up 152.5 points, more than double the score (74) of the runner-up Golden Bucks of Bucksport.
Following were the Ellsworth Eagles with 72.5, the George Stevens Academy Eagles with 44 and the Sumner Tigers with 12.
On the boys’ side, MDI got a pair of wins from Chris Clemens en route to a winning score of 143.5.
Following were Ellsworth with 103, GSA with 65, Sumner with 47 and Bucksport with 21.5.
Girls’ Championships
In the girls’ meet for MDI, Thomas bested Jacqueline Cormier of Sumner in both the hurdle events with times of 17.85 seconds in 100 meters and 53.61 seconds in 300 meters.
Burr took first in the long jump with a distance of 14 feet, 2.25 inches, and first in the triple jump with a distance of 32 feet.
Aleta Looker was a double winner for Ellsworth, placing first in the 800-meter run in 2:24.61 and first in the 1,600-meter run in 5:232.35.
The Golden Bucks got a pair of wins from Taylor Ziegler-Miller, who won the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 9.25 inches and the javelin with a throw of 100 feet, 2 inches.

In the boys’ meet, MDI’s Chris Clemens led the way for the Trojans, winning the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 9 inches, and the triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 9.5 inches.
John San Diego of the Sumner Tigers also was a double winner, placing first in the 110-meter hurdles in 18.58 seconds and first in the 300-meter hurdles in 44.20 seconds.
