ELLSWORTH — CrossFit Acadia on Bucksport Road will hold a Memorial Day “Murph” fund-raiser Monday starting at 9:30 a.m.
A “Murph” is an exceptionally demanding workout named after Navy Lt. Michael P. Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005. Murphy was a CrossFit enthusiast.
The money raised from the $35 registration fee goes to charities associated with the military. CrossFit staff members donate their time and receive no compensation for the event. The workout involves running, pushups and pullups, among other exertions, and will be conducted in heats.
