St. Dunstan’s Melds Sunday Services

Written by  Cyndi Wood Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 4:35 pm

ELLSWORTH — Starting Sunday, May 27, St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church will combine its two Sunday services into one service at 9:30 a.m.

“I’ve been wanting to combine the two servies for a couple years now,” the Rev. Christopher Chornyak explained.

He said the decision is not about downsizing, but rather about unifying the congregation.

Having two Sunday services is a little like having Thanksgiving dinner in shifts, Chornyak said. It would be better to have the whole family — or congregation — together at once.

Chornyak said the combined service also will free up more daytime hours and church space on Sundays for church group meetings and fellowship activities.

It can be a challenge for church members to gather on week nights, he said.

St. Dunstan’s is located at 134 State St. in Ellsworth. For more information, call 667-5495.
