BAR HARBOR — Paige Speight is the 2012 valedictorian for Mount Desert Island High School, and Adam Perruzzi is the salutatorian.
Ms. Speight is the daughter of Jack and Linda Speight of Bar Harbor. During her years at MDIHS, she was a member of the award-winning drama stage crew, a junior varsity soccer player for two years, a varsity soccer player for two years, president of the National Art Honors Society and co-chairman of the Arts Awareness Committee.
As a member of the MDIHS sailing team, Ms. Speight sailed for three years on the most competitive and highest ranked boat on the team, and made significant contributions to the team’s success by helping win numerous awards, including a state championship. She will attend Bowdoin College in Lewiston and major in earth and oceanographic sciences.
Mr. Perruzzi, is the son of Jay and Jennifer Perruzzi of Southwest Harbor. A National Merit Scholarship finalist, he was a recipient of the Bausch and Lomb medal and of the Rensselaer medal.
He has participated in pole vault events as a member of the MDIHS track team and has served as president of the National Honor Society. Mr. Perruzzi and his trombone have been highly involved in a variety of musical experiences during his high school years, including pit orchestras for MDIHS theater productions, award-winning jazz bands, All State Jazz/Classical competitions, and TEMPO, an Eastern Maine Pops Orchestra for Young Musicians which premiered in 2011. He will attend Northeastern University in Boston and major in industrial engineering.
